4th of July Parade!

My family has been going to the 4th of July Parade in Cedar City since I was a little girl. I'm sure my mom went to it when she was little too. It's a tradition to meet at Grandma Smith's house and walk over to the parade.

Grandma Smith's cabin

It is a Smith Family tradition to go up to Grandpa and Grandma Smith's cabin after the parade on the 4th of July. It is a very rustic cabin, but we have a great time together riding 4-wheelers, eating yummy food, hiking, and getting really dirty. The kids love to play on the giant swing my Grandpa Smith made for us. I used to swing on it when I was little. It's so fun to see my kids playing the same way with their cousins as I did with mine.

Great Grandma with the kids

This is a picture of my Grandma, Norene Smith, with some of her many Great-Grandkids. It was taken at her cabin on Cedar Mountain. Libby and Garrett are standing on a memorial stone that is dedicated to my Grandpa Smith. It has a flag holder on it and we put the flag up in honor of Grandpa every time we are at his cabin. He loved the flag and his country.

Fireworks!

Grandma had the great idea to have the kids make t-shirts to watch the fireworks in. The kids were all filthy when we came down from the mountain so we bathed them and had them put on their new clean shirts and shorts. To make the t-shirts, you start with a plain white shirt, then you use masking tape and foam star stickers to mark off the parts you want to keep white. Then you use sponges to dab on red and blue fabric paint. When it's dry, take off the tape and the stickers to reveal the white areas. The kids all came up with their own designs (except for the little ones of course) and they all turned out so cute!
